This Art Deco house near Cromer had been the subject of a complete renovation. The garden had been neglected over a number of years and was full of builders’ rubbish and some of the most impressive brambles we’ve seen.
For their garden, the owners wanted a simple, green background to show off the clean, architectural lines of the house. The first step was to clear all the brambles and rubbish, and re-grade the site to an even, gentle gradient.
The area to the rear of the house was turfed so that it could be used by the family in the first summer.
The areas at the front and side were seeded in a second phase of the project.
Planting was kept simple, with a shady border in the front garden and a sea of catmint for a piece of sculpture.
The panelled fence along the rear boundary was replace with a simple post and rail fence, with yew and beech hedges to mirror the curved elevation of the house.
